Sailor Afternoon Tea

Sailor released the fourth collection of 'Teatime Around the World' series in September 2024. This collection is inspired by the rituals of tea from across the world. The Afternoon Tea series is a tribute to the classic English afternoon tea tradition, according to Sailor. The collection was released with three pens, but it was the ink that caught my eye.

I'm an avid tea drinker and my favorite tea's are strong dark teas so I knew this was something I wanted to add to my ink collection. This is an orangish-brown color with beautiful shading that reminds me of a warm cuppa tea on a cold afternoon. It's been a joy to use this ink throughout December and now into January. I'm on my second fill (soon to be my third) and will likely keep using this ink through the rest of the winter season.

This is a beautiful orangey-brown color, easy to read, good saturation and nice flow, paired with a Hogtown x Enigma PDX with a extra fine nib.

The chromatography was super interesting with pink, yellow, orange, and greens.

Sample writing, swatches and line variation tests on small test notebooks from Mauraman Mnemosyne, Apica, Travelers, Rhodia, and Clariefontaine. These swatches are done with a cotton swab (looking for a better way). I also started using a small pipette to do an ink smear.

Longer writing samples were done on two types of Tomoe River paper, 52gsm and 68gsm.

The ink performed very well, it’s a nice solid standard ink. Writing was smooth. I got a nice line with nice a wet flow. Dry time was surprising fast around 15-20sec. I only got minimal feathering on the Rhodia dotpad. This ink is an absolute joy to use … It’s a warm hug kinda color, and reminds me of curling up with a cat and a good cuppa on a winter night.

PS - All ink reviews are my own and have been purchased with my own dollars.
